I'm Waking Up

This weekend, some friends and I performed about an hour and a half set of music at Awakenings Coffee House here in Boise.  It was a lot of fun!
The sound isn't super great, and one video has a little gap in the middle, and we had to change cameras part way through, but we got pretty much the whole thing on video.
Enjoy!

Rockin' in the Free World

I'm in a band called "Jagged Iris," and this weekend our drummer, Jeff Redmond, got married. He and Melinda (the bride) asked us to play for their reception. We did 8 songs, 2 covers and 6 originals, plus a couple of repeats by request.
We played two sets, with the repeats happening in the second set. The audio mix was a little better in the second set, so I've only included the second set versions of those songs.

Jeff Redmond, our drummer and the groom, had to leave for a few minutes to have pictures taken. While we waited, we just jammed a little bit. This is improvised on the spot.

Mercury Rising

I took a little time Monday morning photographing the transit of Mercury across the Sun.
A transit is a little like an eclipse - in this case, Mercury passes directly between the Earth and the Sun, but because Mercury is so much farther away than the Moon, rather than blocking the Sun, it appears as a tiny dot.

These pictures are processed to sharpen and clarify them, as well as add color - the solar filter on my telescope actually makes the Sun appear a bluish-grey color.

Mercury, on the right, and some sunspots in the upper middle and to the left.

Same as above, labeled.

Below is a composite image showing Mercury moving across the Sun during the time I was observing.  Its path looks a little bumpy due to the conditions I was photographing under - the seeing wasn't very good (lots of moving air currents) and wind kept shaking my telescope.  Also, you can see that the intervals at which I took pictures were a little inconsistent.
A selection of different shots composited to show the path Mercury took.
